Make Magazine Blog just covered a new tool that homebrew mobile device coders can use to increase the energy efficiency of their phone or pda programs. Code that minimizes cpu use and memory access keeps devices from wearing out and ending up in junkpiles. It’s just beginning, but it promises good things for users and for Ma Earth.

Technorati Tags
Technorati is a big huge service that indexes blogs. It also has taken to this tagging bidness. I’m partial to tagging as a fine, messy way of organizing stuff.
So I’ve added technorati tags to my blog starting… well, now.
I’m using an greasemonkey script to add the tags because I can’t be bothered to do all that by hand.
In the future, I’m going to see if I can also make the greasemonkey script bookmark the blogpost on delicious so that all of my posts in any category will show up there as well.
Supporting the (Creative) Commons
When people give you lots of nice presents, it’s good to say thank you. I just said thanks, which is why my name is on this list of supporters.
The Creative Commons helps provide licensing, hosting, and inspiration all designed to enrich our common cultural heritage. If you look at my photos on flickr, you’ll see I’ve licensed my photos in a way that says you can do anything you like with them as long as you give a brotha a little credit. This helps people to create new good things from old things without worrying that they might get in legal trouble.
I just said thanks. You might want to do the same.
Gay people whose feet I have stepped on.
The massive list now includes George “Mr. Sulu” Takei.
Jon Stewart is not the liberal Bill O’Reilly
I was talking to a buddy about the awesomeness that is the daily show, and he said that one of the reasons that its great is you have a powerful personality on your side, a “Bill O’Reilly” for the left.
I think it’s a common sentiment and I think it misses the point. Politics is not a shouting match. When it is, that’s bad. One of the cool things about the daily show is how well people are treated regardless of their political position. Their is an exchange of ideas.
For example, try the two recent shows with Bill O’Reilly and Bill Kristol.
In the O’Reilly show you can see it descend a bit, but Stewart is always trying to ask a question, to get new info from his guest. The Kristol show is congenial and shows that two people can very strongly disagree on a subject without haranguing each other.
I wish that there was a conservative show as good, funny, well thought out and smart as the daily show. If anybody knows of one, drop me a comment or send me a mail.
BTW- I don’t have cable, but I have the internet. I get my daily show fix from the excellent GPod rss feed. I use Azureus with the rssfeed plugin. If anybody wants, I’ll post a howto for automatically downloading your favorite shows.
The BogeyMan is YOU
Bill Maher can be smarmy, irrellevant and completely full of crap. Sometimes, he can be completely and absolutely on point. I just watched this clip on OneGoodMove.
He covers good, evil, and how they really happen.
Mad respect to the Autistic Researchers, yo.
I’m reading Malcolm Gladwell’s “Blink”. It’s really good so far, it’s about how you make all those instant decisions during your daily life. If you want it when I’m done, let me know and you can have it.
So I’m reading it today, and I notice that it is quoting some work done by Simon Baron-Cohen on autism. That rings a bell for me, so I check it out on wikipedia. Sure enough, he’s related to my main man, Ali G. Of course, others have already drawn the connection. This one’s good.
RESPECT. piz n ‘m out, wor.
Stranger things go live
I sent off my conversion of Kelly Link’s “Stranger Things Happen” to Jelly Ink Press a while ago. Due to a massive tea shortage in the UK, they didn’t have the energy to put it up until just now. So, it’s up. Thanks, Gavin! Oh and Thank you Kelly for such wonderful dreamy stories.
My favorite is “Travels with the Snow Queen.” It is a fairy tale, but with a strong female instead of yet another wilting damsel. It’s funny and surprising and juicy and good. Check it out.
Because it is a single html file, you can download this and read it with anything that has a web browser – PSP, Treo, PocketPC, whatever. Enjoy!
What’s grosser than gross?
Stepping barefoot on a cockroach. An excellent way to wake up in the morning, and I recommend it to everyone as an eye-opener.
What’s grosser than that? Getting started on sourceforge. I’m trying to get everything ready and done for automatic builds etc on sf.net. The process is not very streamlined.
But never fear, my trivial software will go up there.
