The combination of you using the word “partner” instead of girlfriend, and that your partner’s name is Sam, if I didn’t know you I’d guess you were gay and that Sam is a man. Not that there is anything wrong with that, just saying. In fact I encourage you to continue using the term partner to break up the stereotype on that word.
That’s what I’m after – Sam and I aren’t married, but Sam is my domestic partner. At work, I usually don’t mention Sam’s gender.
